This new 14-inch Intel laptop from Lenovo strikes a balance between mobility and powerful performance. The Lenovo ThinkPad P14S is for the professional on the go; engineers, creatives, CAD users, financiers, designers, and anyone using graphics.
As with all Lenovo devices, reliability, leading edge design and value is at the core of all their ThinkPad machines. This can be said as well for the P14s, Lenovo’s latest AMD powered laptop computer available now to purchase in bulk to meet your business needs.
Other than this being a firecracker mobile workstation, the inclusion of the isv-certified Nvidia Quadro GPU makes this laptop a grade above what is on the market currently for those needing a superior graphic lead laptop.
This discreet graphics addition will help any creative using professional software to assist with rendering and exporting.
With the P14S having Intel i5 or i7 10th Generation Intel core processor inside and with a possibility of up to 48 RAM storage it more than fits the bill for any professional.
The flagship Lenovo laptop is the ThinkPad series and the first of the these were released in 1992.
The biggest and most well-known fact about this is that they have been to outer space and for many years they were the only laptops certified with the International Space Station.
The design of these ThinkPad laptops is highly recognisable with their solid black and boxy (although some newer models are now curved) look based on the Japanese bento box; you need to open them to find the goodies!
Not surprising then that the ‘Father of the ThinkPad’ is a Japanese engineer and product designer Arimasa Naitoh.
These are well known for being solid, high performing computers that are perfect for any business, they feature slim design spill-resistant keyboard, security protected features and they are manufactured to be strong in build.
The ThinkPad P14S weighs in around 1.83 kilograms and comes in the traditional standard black polycarbonate plastic keeping up with its sturdy reputation.
As with all Lenovo laptops it passes the 12 step military tests which makes it long lasting.
The screen lays back flat should you need it to with the screen itself being an interactive touch screen giving tons of versatility to the user.
Colours display evenly with very stable viewing angles and the factory setting colour calibration is particularly good.
The keyboard has large well-spaced keys that have a sturdy tactile feel when typing on them and of course there is a light up background under the keys too.
There is durable plastic underneath the keyboard means that it is resistant to any liquid spillages. If you are doing lots of writing rest assured, there is a good palm rest on this laptop so wrists won’t tire easily.
The ThinkPad iconic red dot or nub as it’s commonly referred to has been renamed the UltraNav works as a mouse pointer.
The click trackpad has three built in physical buttons for clicking and these are sturdy with have good pressure points as is the trackpad itself with a smooth matt feel.
As with all models of laptop there is a 720i webcam top and central but in addition to this there is a ThinkShutter, this means you can physically close the camera off if you do not need to be using it. Lenovo has given extra thought into the privacy of the user.
When the webcam is in use it can automatically adjust to the lighting in the room making the light brighter on the user or dimming as appropriate.
If you use Windows Hello there is the added bonus of being able to use the HD IR facial recognition software through the webcam.
At the top of the keyboard, you will find the speaker grill location offering up Dolby Audio and these speakers are above average for business laptop sound output which means even if you are using the laptop to present outside the speakers will not let you down.
This ThinkPad also has a fingerprint scanner entry point for tighter security for the user.
The power on key is located along the top of the laptop base above the keyboard.
Breaking down the ports on this model is worth mentioning. On the left side there two Thunderbolt 3 connections, (this means the port can transmit data at a rate of 40 gbps plus you can charge your smartphone here), the first port takes in power and the second is a USB 32 Gen 2 USB-C port which is a fully functioning multi service USB being able to take power in and video out.
Then there is a side docking connector for an optional ethernet adaptor and next to that is a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port.
An HDMI port for hooking up external displays, a headphone jack and lastly a micro-SD card slot which is great for taking media around with you.
At the back of the laptop is an optional NANOsim slot to connect to 4G networks so you can plug in on the go without any issues almost an essential for the business traveller or any mobile businessperson on the go.
Turning to the right-hand side you will first come across the Kensington jack for security which will lock this laptop down to your desk.
A (registered jack) ethernet port is next. The exhaust vents are located next to that followed by a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 power share port.
Lastly there is the unusual but terribly clever slot is placed on the end that is a Smartcard reader, used for scanning bank cards or credit cards and it can even be encrypted so that companies can use their VPN cards in the slot too.
Lenovo have made upgrading remarkably simple with this model all you need to do is pop the back panel off unscrewing the six screws and upgrade as you need to.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P14S comes with a lightweight rapid battery charger and from 0% battery will charge to 80% within an hour. The battery life itself will last you between ten and 11 hours or work time.
